Love is the perfection of reason.  Reason the perfection of love.

Gregg Zegarelli's Comments: "This statement came to me and resonated in my mind continually as I wrote the book, ONE, and I thought it made an appropriate entrance with my dedication.  To me, personally, faith and beauty come from the heart.  But, to me, knowledge and truth come from the mind.

"The heart should move us, but it is the mind that should direct us.

"To those who believe faith is everything, it works for them.  But, to me, finding the truth, such as I, at least, am capable of discerning it, is a subject of rationality.  Truth, to me, is inherently rational.

"To me, there is a point where heart and mind come full circle together.  A point where faith gets grounded in rational fundamental thought.  Possibly ironically, to me, the rational thought brings open-mindedness.  It is, for me, the point of true love for other people of peace and love, without any judgment: it is enough for me that they are people of peace and love.  And, to me, the Spirit is a rose, that, by any other name, smells as sweet."

ONE.

Gregg Zegarelli's Comments: "This quotation from ONE, with the source of John, provided great inspiration to me, as well as the foundation for the name of the book.  It is, for me, one of the most beautiful passages in the Gospels.  In this passage, Jesus prays that he is one with the Father, that we should be one with him.  Perfect."

First Prayer.

Gregg Zegarelli's Comments: "I wrote this poem for teaching my first daughter, Bria, to pray at the dinner table every night, and I needed a prayer that could be universally recited by children and adults equally, as one.  I wanted it to be universal for any occasion."

One Day.

Gregg Zegarelli's Comments: "I try to keep my prayers simple and reflective.  Occasionally, I suppose, we all become weak and pray for something for ourselves, but I think that is something to be caught and adjusted.  It might be impossible, but I think we should try to live as if there is only one day remaining in our lives."

Getting It: Plate.

Gregg Zegarelli's Comments: "I often think about the most basic rules for living well.  I have tried to observe others, how they live, whether they are happy and how they use their life.  This is my reduction.  The full text was written after these points were developed as an expansion."

(Full Text)

Gregg Zegarelli's Comments: "I wrote this for my children.  When my time is finished, I hope that this continues to teach them some of the results of my life's observations and devotions.  They may or may not adopt my thoughts, but I find it my duty to provide these thoughts to them for their consideration as my children.  Upon reflection, I though it might be something to share."
